GREAT LAKES INVITATIONAL (DEC. 29-30)

For the 14th time in the tournament’s history, four Michigan-based schools will descend upon Hockeytown for the 52nd Annual Great Lakes Invitational on Dec. 29-30. The two-day, single-elimination tournament which has become a holiday tradition for sports fans in southeast Michigan will feature event host Michigan Tech and tournament mainstays Michigan and Michigan State. Special invitee Western Michigan is set to participate in the tournament for the fifth time and first time since winning the MacInnes Cup in 2013 at Comerica Park as part of the Hockeytown Winter Festival.

The four-team tournament starts with a doubleheader matchup on Thursday, Dec. 29 between Michigan (Big Ten) and Michigan Tech (WCHA) at 3:30 p.m., and Western Michigan (NCHC) and Michigan State (Big Ten) at 7:00 p.m. The winners of those contests will advance to the championship game on Friday, Dec. 30 at 7:00 p.m., while the other two teams will meet in the third-place game at 3:30 p.m. on the same day.
