Kathy Griffin
Two-time Emmy winner, New York Times bestselling author, three-time Grammy nominee and comedienne, Kathy Griffin, will return to
Detroit's Fox Theatre on Friday, November 9 at 8 p.m. The multi-faceted performer has more stories, more dish, more of what she shouldn't say but you know you want to hear.
Griffin's current project is an all new one-hour weekly pop culture talk show KATHY. After premiering on Bravo to rave reviews, the show encompasses all the things Kathy loves; stand up, pop culture, politics and a sprinkling of her beloved mom Maggie Griffin.
Kathy's reality show, Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List, debuted on Bravo in 2005 and was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Reality Program and the second season of Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List won Kathy her first Emmy in that same category. The third season premiered in 2007 and again won Kathy an Emmy for Outstanding Reality Program. The fourth and fifth and final season were nominated again for Outstanding Reality Program. Making 'D –List' nominated every single year it was on the air.
Kathy has also performed many successful stand-up specials for Bravo including the Emmy nominated Kathy Griffin-Straight to Hell (November 2008), Kathy Griffin; She'll Cut a Bitch (April 2009) and Kathy Does The Bible Belt (June 2010). Kathy's DVD stand up special Allegedly is available in stores now.
In March of 2011, Kathy brought her stand up show to Broadway with "Kathy Griffin Wants A Tony" and received rave reviews from all outlets across the board, including The New York Times and The New York Post. She added 2 shows due to amazing ticket sales, and performed 10 shows in 8 days at the famed Belasco Theater. She sold over a million dollars worth of tickets in less than a week, quite a feat for Broadway.
Kathy's TV Guide special called Kathy Griffin's Insightful and Hilarious Take on The Royal Wedding is ranked #1 for TV Guide this year in prime time and was the highest rated wedding special on cable. Kathy enlisted the help of the Sklar Bros, Jack Gray and the fabulous Jackie Collins, for the only comedic take on the royal wedding.
In June 2008, Griffin released her first comedy album For Your Consideration. The album received a Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album and garnered Kathy the acclaim of being the first female comedian ever to debut at #1 on the Billboard Top Comedy Albums chart. Kathy was again nominated for a Grammy in 2010 for Best Comedy Album for Kathy Griffin Does the Bible Belt and is currently nominated for her stand up CD Kathy Griffin: 50 and Not Pregnant.
On September 8, 2009, Kathy added best-selling author to her list of many achievements. Her tell-all autobiography entitled, "Official Book Club Selection: A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin," topped the New York Times Best Sellers List as well as The Wall Street Journal and Publishers Weekly lists.
